Microsoft lacked a perspective on how their technology was aligned with a customer’s business operations. Microsoft teamed with Accelare to create Motion, now the Microsoft Business Architecture Framework.
Motion is an approach to business architecture and a set of tools that can help close the communications gap between IT and business, by modeling the business as a set of business capabilities, processes, and activities that can be mapped directly onto people, process and technologies - and then onto a services oriented architecture.
The motion methodology became the cornerstone for Microsoft’s service oriented architecture and capability management strategies. It also laid the ground work for the recent book Rethink : A Business Manifesto for Cutting Costs and Boosting Innovation and the Harvard Business Review Article The Next Revolution in Productivity. Today, the Microsoft Business Architecture Framework is a key service offering available to Microsoft customers through Microsoft Consulting Services.
