A Trusted Partner for Creating Fit Enterprises

Accelare was founded in 2001 as a result of two simple observations:

  • Most businesses are missing a critical process – a process that links strategy to business-model innovation with a more agile approach to implementation, and
  • Most businesses have structural and governance-model deficiencies
With this, Jack Calhoun and Mark McCormick set out to change the world by helping organizations improve Enterprise Fitness: the ability to run, improve, and transform simultaneously using the  Strategy to Execution process and WorkFit management collaboration software.

Jack co-founded Accelare to reinvent the theory and practice of management. For over a century, businesses have operated under the inadvertent tyranny of hierarchy and industrial era design principles.

WorkFit and the Strategy-to-Execution process are the heartbeat of Jack's work to unleash the power of inspired, connected, agile teams with engaged, authentic leaders to design new business models and build high-performance organizations.

Jack is a noted author and speaker, contributing to such works as:

Jack holds numerous patents and is a principal in a number of early-stage companies.

Jack is also a Board Member and Vice-Chairman of Healthcare Delivery of the Tennenbaum Institute at Georgia Tech.

In his spare time, Jack is an avid skier, surfer, runner, and musician.

Mark is a noted consultant and software architect who has served business and IT leaders for the past 20 years. He is passionate about helping clients ensure they are investing in the right initiatives and delivering those initiatives as quickly as practical.

Mark's work has been cited in several business books over the past decade, including:

Prior to co-founding Accelare, Mark worked at Perot Systems where he designed Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare's groundbreaking approach to simplifying health plan administration through HPHConnect, one of the first online enrollment and billing solutions for health plans

Before that, he founded a software development firm and authored several sales proposal automation software solutions and a law firm contact and conflict management system.

Outside work hours, Mark and his wife Diane enjoy the challenge of raising their two daughters, Riley and Delaney. Mark is also an avid golfer and competes at state and national levels. He enjoys reading US history and biographies of historical figures.

Amber’s 17+ years of experience combines a well-rounded enterprise view of business, operations, and technology aspects of organizations. Her experience spans Strategic Planning, Project Management/EPMO/PMO, Enterprise Architecture, Business Architecture, Business Analysis, Change Leadership, Organizational Design, leadership, and information technology.

Amber is an effective advisor in managing and driving change in organizations in Health Plans, Insurance, State Government, Financial Services, Technology and Higher Education. Her practical experience both consultant and employee give her insight into managing teams, programs, and projects in ways that connect them to strategic intent and adaptable execution frameworks, to deliver tangible results.

Brendan brings over 20 years working with clients on business strategy, technology adoption, organizational change, and process redesign. He has been at the forefront of multiple technology waves, helping clients to achieve rapid business value from new and emerging technologies.

Brendan’s career has focused on leveraging technology to support strategic change across a variety of industries; including healthcare, high technology, financial services, and government.

Brendan has been an executive in both high technology and consulting companies, where he has always been at the intersection of strategy and technology.

In his spare time, Brendan enjoys golfing, skiing, and cycling.

Chris is an aspiring business architect and a certified Scrum Master capable of helping companies implement Agile and Scrum practices on a number of levels to help generate efficient, cross-functional teams. In addition, he can help guide organizations through their reengineering effort by utilizing his knowledge of Strategy to Execution and his understanding of processes.

Prior to joining Accelare, Chris worked as an account coordinator at Racepoint Global, where he conducted media outreach on the behalf of technology and healthcare clients to help secure media coverage and raise awareness for upcoming events and new products and services.

In his free time Chris can be found playing with his band around the Boston area. He also enjoys spending time with his family, attending concerts, and following hockey.

Diana Fischer

Diana Fischer

Diana Fischer recently graduated in 2016 as valedictorian of her Boston University Executive MBA class. She was known throughout the program for her strengths in operational excellence, process improvement, project management, and rapid service innovation.

At the Spaulding Outpatient Rehabilitation Network, Diana was responsible for the daily operations for multiple outpatient rehabilitation clinics and management of a multidisciplinary team of 40 rehab clinicians for five years. She oversaw the successful turnaround of the outpatient’s most strategic site leading to a 30% YoY increase in revenue. She successfully built and launched the new Spaulding Aquatics program, which has grown to be the largest Aquatics Rehab program in the state of MA serving 400 clients per year. She most recently brought a mobile online booking capability to the Network’s service offerings improving access and customer satisfaction.

Prior to that, Diana worked at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she treated as a licensed Physical Therapist for five years and became a lumbar spine clinical specialist. She became the “therapist of choice” for important hospital VIPs due to her attention to detail and ability to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Diana is currently working on multiple projects at Neighborhood Health Plan.

Hugh Flood

Hugh draws on over 20 years of experience leading implementation programs, designing business architectures, and re-engineering processes for clients across a diverse set of industries including Healthcare, Financial Services, Pharmaceuticals, Utilities, Chemicals, and Manufacturing.

While at Perot Systems early in his career, Hugh was looking for a way out of the monthly grind of Finance and was revitalized when he joined the company's fledgling business consulting group where he could dive into solving important client problems. When Perot Systems bought Business Architects, he met Jack Calhoun, Accelareís Co-Founder, and worked with him on the business turnaround of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare.

When Accelare launched in 2001, Hugh leapt at the chance to join the team. He applies his own pragmatic approach to one that values delivering client results over displaying an encyclopedic knowledge of consulting jargon and acronyms.

Hugh can be found on weekends in Miami taking fitness classes from Pilates to boxing. He claims he does this to clear his mind, but in reality he is in denial of the aging process.

Jim is a maker, learner and coach with a keen interest in helping individuals, teams and organizations realize their performance aspirations. People let too many things get in the way of actualizing what they know in the heads to be helpful and productive. Often all they lack is someone to ask the right questions, make their aspirations actionable and coach them through realization.

After leaving the Electrical Engineering Lab for Information Technology, Jim found his work/playground. A place where people, process, technology and business can align to produce amazing results but rarely do so without struggle. Jim has led Teaming, Leadership Alignment, Leader Development, Change Management and Strategy Clarification programs.

He is a Co-author of The Capable Company: Building the Capabilities that Make Strategy Work (Wiley) and holds two patents related to disc drive performance enhancement and one for holistic computer resource management.

Jim maintains a healthy balance with frequent travel, flamework – glass art, photography, Internet of Things tinkering, and providing science lesson plans and supplies for the two middle-schools in his neighborhood.

Jeff Scott

Jeff is an internationally recognized thought-leader in business architecture, strategy design, and organizational innovation. At Accelare, he advises executives, strategists, and business architects on strategy execution effectiveness.

Prior to joining Accelare, Jeff was the principal analyst for business architecture with Forrester Research where he published over fifty research reports and provided strategic consulting to a wide variety of companies.

His last corporate position was as Director of Advanced Technology for First Union National Bank (now Wells Fargo) where he created innovative organizational models for IT delivery, developed business and IT strategy, and mentored up-and-coming leaders.

Jeff is a frequent conference speaker, currently leads The Business Architect Roundtable, and writes the blog: The Business Architect.

Jeff ís professional mission is to create innovative, successful leaders and high-performance organizations. He is a slow runner, fast hiker, and maker of robots, ships-in-bottles, wooden clocks, and wicked treasure hunts.

Justin manages Accelare software development and is a key contributor to the design, development, and support of WorkFit, Accelare’s tool for implementing Strategy to Execution (S2E).

Justin works with clients and his Accelare colleagues to gather business requirements for new and enhanced features in WorkFit. He then translates those requirements into technology, managing the design, testing, and delivery of those features.

Justin loves solving problems and delivering great user experiences.

Outside of work, Justin enjoys writing music, golfing, and disc golfing.

Mark Withington

Mark leads Accelare's Service Design Lifecycle Management (SDLM) and Customer Experience Deployment practices using Accelare's proven methodology that instantiates Service Design and Customer Experience through a multistep stage-gate process; aligning the customer’s Service Level Expectation (SLE) with the enterprise’s capabilities.  

With over 30 years of experience ranging from sales, marketing and global distribution to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and open source software development Mark has helped clients such as Citizens Bank, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Perot Systems, Workscape, Target, AvMed, NASCO, Neighborhood Health Plans, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, and The Public Consulting Group optimize processes/technology and codify their product/service development. He has broad delivery experience ranging from process (SDLC) and governance design to SOA discovery and Product Lifecycle Management. 

Mark is a TOGAF-9 certified Enterprise Architect, holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire. He is also the founder and former benevolent dictator of BostonPHP.org, a very popular open source user group in the Boston area. 

Outside of work, Mark enjoys backcountry skiing, cycling, mountain biking, singing, ice hockey, golf, tennis, economics, woodworking and myriad other general areas of mischief.

Matt is a business development leader at Accelare focusing on our WorkFit Product and bringing more than 20 years’ experience in enterprise software sales and services to his position.

In addition to his diversity in the technology space, Matt is experienced with enterprise solution sales, product sales, and delivery best practices. With his expertise in complex sales strategies, he has a proven track record bringing business value to his customers.

Prior to joining Accelare, Matt enjoyed a 17-year sales career at several companies, including Sun Microsystems, BMC Software, and Unisys, where he held a variety of sales positions servicing both strategic and small/medium-sized accounts. He has been widely recognized for his sales achievement.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma where he was a proud member of the 1992 College World Series Team.

Matt is an up and coming business architect who uses his knowledge of Strategy to Execution to help organizations define their business strategy and to guide them in their reengineering effort. As a certified Scrum Master and a Scrum coach, he is capable of implementing Agile and Scrum practices on a variety of levels; helping companies create and develop high-performing, cross-functional teams.

Prior to joining Accelare, Matt worked as a researcher at the Vermont Legislative Research Service, where he and his team supported the Vermont House of Representatives by providing non-partisan, fact-driven reports to provide background on various issues in the state.

In his free time Matt can be found sailing and fishing during the summer and skiing as much as he can in the winter. He is also a fitness enthusiast, who enjoys pushing his limits through CrossFit

Matt has worked over 10 years to analyze, identify and provide solutions to complex business challenges. He received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and his MBA from Northeastern University.

Since joining Accelare in early 2016, Matt has worked with several clients including the Department of Children of Families, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, the Department of Revenue and a private healthcare company.

At the Department of Revenue (DOR), Matt worked as part of a small team to assess the operations of the tax processing group. Once the assessment was complete, Matt and his Accelare colleagues recommended over two dozen projects that could help improve the department’s workflow efficiency. Matt managed a project track focused on developing employee training — highlighting and reinforcing an end-to-end understanding of the department’s operations. In addition to overseeing the training project, Matt assisted in the delivery of two other project tracks.

Matt has the proven ability to manage client needs through clear and communication skills.

Mikyas Aklu

Mikyas Aklu is a hands-on consultant skilled in process improvement, business process optimization and ability to manage cross-functional work teams.

Over the past two years with Accelare, he worked on several projects at different agencies in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. At the Human Resources Department (HRD), Mikyas managed a transformation project that allowed Massachusetts’ HR operations to holistically and deliberately move toward a contemporary talent and performance management services organization, while realizing big efficiencies from a new operating model and platforms.

At the Department of Revenue (DOR), Mikyas managed a run and improve project in the Inbound Operations department. After an initial rapid assessment of DOR’s processing unit, the team identified 26 process improvement opportunities. In subsequent phases, Mikyas managed the implementation of several of these initiatives, ranging from work flow optimization to tax form redesign.

Mikyas received his MBA from Northeastern University and a BS in Biochemistry from Eastern Mennonite University.

Nancy brings over 20 years’ experience to her role managing a variety of operational areas at Accelare, including accounting, human resources, employee on-boarding, and compensation and benefits administration. 

As our office manager, she helps set a clear path for success for each of our employees.

Nancy’s prior positions with globally-recognized leaders, like PricewaterhouseCoopers, instilled in her a commitment to taking a "Team Effort" approach to developing organization success.

Nancy likes to spend time with her husband, family and friends traveling and exploring new places.

In his everyday work, Nigel is a strong proponent of Accelare’s “Fingerprint Principle” — ensuring our clients are fully vested in the methodology we advocate, our collaborative approach, and the outcomes we achieve together. 

He has domestic and international experience in strategic planning, product lifecycle planning, new product planning, product portfolio management, alliance and partner management, project management, IT systems acquisition, and implementation. He has worked for large, established companies and start-ups. 

Nigel’s industry experience includes Insurance, Healthcare, Hospitality, Consumer Electronics, Energy Generation & Transmission, Mining & Mineral Processing, Semiconductor Development, Life Sciences/Biotech, State Government, Defense, and Professional Services.

When not on the job Nigel enjoys spending time with his family. He coaches his daughter’s soccer team, enjoys skiing, golf, landscaping, keeping fit, and generally being outside.

Rich is a valued, energetic Accelare team member who has been helping his clients find solutions to their problems for many years.

Rich has the ability to maximize his teams’ efforts, always looking to match individual skills to the problem at hand. His clients and colleagues have appreciated his breadth of skills and his style of rolling up his sleeves to lend support throughout his many years of consulting work.

Rich’s experiences have been across a wide range of industries. Most recently, he has been helping his client improve requirements development for program and project work. Prior to his consulting career, Rich held a series of executive positions in Healthcare and Software industries.

Rich is fascinated by personalities. He enjoys meeting different people and learning about their worlds. In his time off, he is an avid sports fan with a passion for football.

As an Accelare mentor, he uses this experience to develop collaborative Accelare/client teams of who take strategy to design and innovative designs to practical execution.

In addition to publishing numerous strategic planning and leadership articles, he is the lead author of:

Rich is passionate about improving the way leaders take strategy to execution and enjoys collaborating with teams in thinking through new adaptive challenges. Always learning, he continues to write to sharpen business insights.

He is an avid hiker, weekend cook and enjoys traveling to experience different cultures and thinking.

Steve has been creating eye-catching computer graphics since the early days of the Macintosh using the first versions of Microsoft Word and Adobe Illustrator.

At Accelare, Steve has collaborated with small and large customers to create effective, compelling visuals that quickly convey a complex message. He has helped many healthcare insurers communicate their business architecture ideas, and the graphics he has created illuminate the new discipline of business capability modeling. (You can find many of these graphics in the top ranks of image searches in this area.) He also worked with Microsoft to build a catalog of images that support its capability mapping methodology. 

Proficient using existing software, he keeps an eye on emerging tools and welcomes new ways to communicate and document ideas. 

Steve has a funny bone and uses it to lighten the mood. He really enjoys a good laugh and often meditates using “Seinfeld” TV episodes. He also enjoys hiking and biking in the great outdoors — and hopes to take up kayaking.

Over the past 25 years, Steve has developed a track record of advancing execution and business capabilities through numerous strategic, operational, and solution implementation initiatives.

Largely driven through his experience working within High Tech, Services, and Financial Services industries, he helps clients evolve business model design while pragmatically considering the underlying operational details necessary to attain short and long term goals. This often includes working at all levels within major functions including Sales, Delivery, Operations, Finance, and IT.  Equally important, he has strong understanding of cultural dynamics and change management approaches required to successfully deploy solutions.

Prior to his tenure with Accelare, Steve co-founded two firms, NerveWire and serVelocity, and served in various executive roles with Cambridge Technology Partners, NerveWire/Wipro, Cognizant, GlassHouse Technologies, and Project Partners.

Tigran Gukasyan

Tigran is a professional with experience in strategic planning, management, and investments with US buy side transactions. He has a proven ability to impact business growth through market research, quantitative analysis, process improvement, and project management.

In his most recent role, Tigran worked on the core system replacement initiative and business process optimization at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Tigran recently graduated from the full-time MBA program at Northeastern University. Prior to studying at Northeastern, Tigran received both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Higher School of Economics in Russia. 

Before joining Accelare, Tigran worked in the investment reporting team at Wellington Management. In this role, he conducted complex financial and quantitative analysis, prepared client reports and grew the company’s business by partnering with investment directors to launch a new strategy with $7.5 billion in investment potential.

In his spare time, Tigran enjoys adventure sports, international travel, and loves studying foreign cultures and languages.
